Wixarika Incense
Curandera Remedies‘ incense line offers unique choices for all kinds of devotional practices. The scents are picked for their depth of aroma, burn time, & healing properties.
Calling this resin ‘copal’ does not begin to explain it’s depth. Through a new Hermana Curandera I found this amazing Wixarika Copal. She is a bridge between this Indigenous Mexican community and the outside world. The Wixarika are known for their symbolic art rooted in the Deer, Grandfather Fire, and Hikuri - the sacred Peyote cactus. Once a year the Wixarika take a month pilgrimage to harvest Hikuri, the trade in copal enables the Huicholes to maintain their tradition and culture and to protect their sacred areas.
This resin comes from the Bursera copallifera tree, harvested in the mountainous regions of Jalisco. It is heated, purified, poured into corn leaves and ceremonially consecrated and blessed. Personally, I have never experienced such a soft AND powerful incense before. It is truly an experience. It is relaxing, harmonizing, and grounding. It has notes of lemon and oud, unlike any other 'copal' I have experienced.. Best used in ceremonies of master plants, temazcal, and rites of passage.
I have hand processed this incense with my Mother, as instructed by my friend, with diatomaceous earth on the outside to protect it giving it a vey unique look.
